Alex Morgan is undeniable. The Wave striker notched a brace in San Diego’s 2-2 draw with Kansas City on Saturday to bring her goals tally to eight in seven regular-season matches.

The USWNT veteran is a perfect four-for-four on penalty kicks and has logged four goals in the run of play. The next three closest players — Houston’s Rachel Daly and Nichelle Prince and Chicago’s Mallory Pugh — have just four goals overall.

For context, Washington’s Ashley Hatch won the Golden Boot with ten goals through 20 matches last season, a threshold Morgan is already close to exceeding. Australian star Sam Kerr holds the record for most goals in a single NWSL campaign, recording 18 in her 2019 Red Stars season, a ceiling well within Morgan’s sights.

Morgan kicked off her campaign in historic fashion, becoming just the third player in NWSL history to score four goals in a single match during the Wave’s May home opener.

The Wave striker wasted no time following up her dominant performance, slotting in a goal from the spot in San Diego’s May 15 matchup against Chicago.

On May 22, Morgan rifled in her sixth goal of the season, scoring the lone finish in her side’s 1-0 victory over the Courage.

Saturday’s brace brings Morgan’s league-leading goals tally to eight. She slotted home a penalty kick and a thrilling equalizer in the 90th minute.
