Stanford guard Anna Wilson is cashing in her sixth year of eligibility.
She will be joining teammate Alyssa Jerome, who is staying for a fifth year, to help the Cardinal try and defend their national championship.
The younger sister of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, the 5-foot-9 guard has become one of the Cardinals’ star defenders, being named Pac-12 Conference co-defensive Player of the Year last season.
“It’s just a really awesome opportunity to have,” Wilson told Janie McCauley of AP Monday night. “Obviously, we just came off the national championship win and to be able to be with this team again is really special.”
First reported on by Janie McCauley of AP on Monday night via Twitter, Wilson expressed her frustration a couple of hours later with how the news came out.
Frustrated in the way this was released. I feel cheated of the space needed to explain what this year has meant to me, why I chose to come back & how my teammates have played a role. I didn’t publicize yet; I hadn’t formalized the words that describe all Stanford has meant to me. https://t.co/GLkza41wlX
