The win is Bencic’s sixth Hologic WTA Tour title and her first on clay. It’s also the first top-10 win of her professional career.
Bencic is the first Swiss woman to win the Charleston Open since former World No. 1 Martina Hingis in 1999. Winning 70 percent of her first-service points, Bencic also converted seven of 19 break points in the match.
The former World No. 1 is projected to rise from No. 21 to No. 13 in the world rankings with the win. Jabeur is also expected to rise one spot to No. 9.
“It has been an amazing final,” Bencic said after the match. “I think this tournament really deserved both winners.”
