The American-born free skier struggled on her first two runs, sitting in eighth place after her opening attempts. But with the pressure mounting, Gu performed, throwing down a massive final run to earn a score of 86.23, three-tenths of a point behind Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland.

Gremaud’s staggering second run held for a gold in Tuesday’s event, an improvement from her silver in PyeongChang. Kelly Sildaru of Estonia rounded out the slopestyle podium, clinching the bronze medal.
Gu will next compete in the halfpipe event in hopes of taking home three medals from the Beijing Games.
