The third installation of “Beyond the Game,” Elena Delle Donne’s docuseries, dropped on Monday.
The YouTube series pulls back the curtain on the WNBA star’s back injury, documenting her lead up to surgery, the procedure itself and its aftermath.
In the most recent episode, Delle Donne invites viewers to join her on surgery day. The Mystic’s forward starts the video with a reassuring mantra, insisting that her procedure will be a net positive.
“We’re sending 2020 out with a great surgery,” Delle Donne says emphatically before the opening credits roll.
Highlights from the latest installment of “Beyond the Game” include anesthesia-induced commentary, Cronut cravings and a snow-covered New York City stroll.
The series airs as Delle Donne gears up for the upcoming WNBA season after COVID-19 concerns kept her off the court for most of last year.
Working her way back from surgery, the 2019 MVP is starting pre-season camp on a very different note from years past. The Mystics remain hopeful that their franchise player can find her footing in time for the regular season. As of now, it’s still unclear whether Delle Donne will be game-ready in time for the Mystics’ regular season opener against the Chicago Sky on May 15.
