It was a family affair in Kansas City last night.

Brittany Matthews, co-owner of KC, was joined by fiancée Patrick Mahomes and 2-month-old daughter Sterling Skye to celebrate the team’s inaugural game under new ownership.

A Dash goal quickly spoiled the KC homecoming in the 25th minute, as Kristie Mewis blasted a rocket off her favorite left foot to put Houston out in front early.

Late in the second half, Rachel Daly drew a foul inside the box and converted from the line to give the Dash a comfortable lead going into the half.

In the 70th minute, Houston added to their lead with a tap-in goal from Mewis, served on a platter from Nichelle Prince.

Fighting until the end, Michele Vasconcelos scored KC’s first home goal in the 78th minute.

KC’s last-minute push ultimately wasn’t enough to mount a comeback, and Houston walked away with their first win of the season.

Next-up, the Dash will host the Portland Thorns, who clinched the Western Division title, on May 2nd at 7:30 pm ET.

Kansas City is slated to take on OL Reign on May 3rd, at 8 pm ET.
