Jensen Castle won the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Sunday, beating Hou Yu-chiang 2 and 1 in the 36-hole final at Westchester Country Club.

The Kentucky junior is only the third No. 63 seed to capture a USGA title, joining 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links champion Clay Ogden and 2012 U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox.

Castle’s unexpected victory comes after she was sidelined for a month with a stress fracture in her ribs.

“Still hasn’t registered,” Castle said afterward. “It feels like just another tournament, but then I step back and I’m like, this is a USGA event with so much history.”

Castle’s performance earned her an automatic spot on the 2021 USA Curtis Cup Team, which will compete in Wales from Aug. 26-28.
