Aryna Sabalenka thanks Billie Jean King after Australian Open win
It's Sabalenka's first title.
Naomi Osaka looks set to play at Indian Wells.
Alongside Ash Barty, Osaka’s name is on the entry list for the tournament. It comes following the four-time Grand Slam champion saying she was going to take another break from tennis following her loss to Leylah Fernandez in the US Open.
“I feel like for me recently, like, when I win, I don’t feel happy,” said Osaka at the time, adding, “I feel more like a relief. And then when I lose, I feel very sad. I don’t think that’s normal.
“Basically I feel like I’m kind of at this point where I’m trying to figure out what I want to do, and I honestly don’t know when I’m going to play my next tennis match.”
Serena Williams is notably absent from the injury list as she continues to recover from an injury sustained during the first-round at Wimbledon.
It's Sabalenka's first title.
Instead, she'll set her sights on the doubles bracket.
Pegula is the last American woman standing.
Both lost in straight sets.
