Sophia Smith is on a tear, continuing her dominance for the Thorns in the team’s 3-0 win over Kansas City Saturday.

The 21-year-old has been in top form for club and country, with Smith quickly becoming a fixture in coach Vlatko Andonovski’s USWNT forward line-up.

The striker’s solid USWNT showing appears to have carried over to the NWSL regular season, with Smith firing a lethal shot from the corner of the box to put Portland up 3-0 over the Current in the 50th minute.

Smith’s stunning finish joins her three goals from the Challenge Cup, bringing her tally to four goals in all competitions.

Morgan Weaver and Christine Sinclair also got on the scoresheet during Portland’s regular-season home opener, helping the club to secure the 3-0 shutout.

The Thorns will hope to keep up the momentum when they travel to take on the Courage in North Carolina Saturday.
