Aryna Sabalenka thanks Billie Jean King after Australian Open win
It's Sabalenka's first title.
Sloane Stephens opened up about experiencing online abuse after her third-round US Open loss to Angelique Kerber. The American tennis star took to her Instagram story, stating that she received thousands of messages of abuse “from people upset by yesterday’s result.”
Stephens shared a range of comments, most misogynistic and racist in nature, threatening the 28-year-old. “This type of hate is so exhausting and never ending,” said Stephens.
Posting again on Sunday, Stephens thanked her fans for the love and support and said that she hopes the conversation about social media abuse continues.
“Your messages are so kind and thoughtful! I’m so grateful for my family, friends and fans- I feel so loved, encouraged and uplifted,” Stephens wrote.
It's Sabalenka's first title.
Instead, she'll set her sights on the doubles bracket.
Pegula is the last American woman standing.
Both lost in straight sets.
