Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe didn’t mince words when asked about the club’s co-owner Steve Baldwin’s move to sell the team.

A report from The Athletic released on Friday reveals Baldwin had offered to sell his shares in the team to co-owner Y. Michele Kang before rescinding the offer days later. In an open letter to Baldwin, Spirit players explicitly asked the co-owner to sell the team to Kang.

“We have made it very clear the path forward for this team,” Bledsoe said following the Spirit’s Saturday night win. “We believe that Michele (Kang) will be a great owner and continually put the players first.”

Referencing the players’ open letter, Bledsoe said, “I don’t think Steve (Baldwin) is going to honor our demand, or request.”

Instead of selling the team to Kang, Baldwin is reportedly entertaining offers that would move the team out of the D.C. area, something Bledsoe said the players don’t support.

“…we want to stay here in this city. It’s a great city. They deserve a club, and we have a suitable path forward.”
