Sydney McLaughlin is officially an Olympic gold medalist.

The 21-year-old American broke the world record in the 400-meter hurdles finals, besting her own WR set only two months ago at the Olympic Trials.

McLaughlin set a blistering pace, clocking in at 51.46 to defeat defending Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad, who recorded a time of 51.58 to capture the silver medal.

Muhammad’s time itself would have been a world record, if not for McLaughlin.
