Jacobs, the 13th overall pick in the 2020 NWSL Draft, reportedly requested a trade or release. So far this season, the defender has made four appearances and one start. Jacobs is now on waivers and available to other NWSL teams.
Jacobs had an eventful rookie year for the Spirit, playing a total of seven games and starting in five, leading them to re-sign her in December 2020 to a two-year deal.
Before she was drafted by the Spirit, Jacobs had a standout college career at Notre Dame and USC, leading the Trojans to the NCAA quarterfinals during he redshirt senior season.
The move comes as teams around the NWSL line up replacement players for the Olympics.
