With the deadline for teams to exercise options on contracts coming on Tuesday, many have made personnel moves ahead the 2022 season. Just Women’s Sports has a roundup of the most notable players teams have extended or released on waivers.

Orlando Pride

The Orlando Pride have exercised their option for midfielder Marta, one of the more notable pickups for the team. Eight other players have also been picked up, while the Pride chose not to exercise the option on Konya Plummer. Crystal Thomas’ contract is up with the club and they have opted not to renew. Both players enter the waiver wire.

Racing Louisville

Executive vice president of development James O’Connor was in charge of roster decisions ahead of the deadline. The team opted to keep Lauren Milliet, Greja Olofsson, Taylor Otto and Savannah McCaskill under contract for 2022.

Notably, the team has opted to release goalkeeper Michelle Betos. Betos was the club’s 2020 NWSL Expansion Draft selection, making 20 appearances in the 2021 season. She logged a total of 96 saves, good for second in the league, alongside a 4-11-5 record in 2021.

“Through offseason processes, we made the very difficult decision not to negotiate a new contract with Michelle,” O’Connor said in a release. “She wants to be a starter in the league. With that in mind, we felt it important to be open with Michelle and let her seek a new opportunity promising more minutes.

“The next time we see Michelle — hopefully defending the other goal next year at Lynn Family Stadium — she’s due a warm welcome in Louisville. We’re grateful and appreciative of all she did here.”

North Carolina Courage

The Courage opted to re-sign defender Carson Pickett to a two year deal. A dominant presence on the Courage backline, Pickett joined the club from Orlando in early February. She made 25 appearances for North Carolina, making 47 clearances, nine blocks and 58 interceptions while holding a 77.7 percent passing success rate. She was named to the NWSL’s Best XI First Team in the postseason.

The club declined to exercise the option on Hailey Harbison’s contract.

On Tuesday, the club picked up Jordan Baucom and Jordyn Listro from the Waiver Wire. Baucom was also let go by Racing Louisville where she appeared in 15 matches, scoring one goal on seven total shots. Listro, meanwhile, joins the Courage from Kansas City. She played in nine total matches and has played for Team Canada at the SheBelieves Cup.
