According to reporting by The Athletic’s Meg Linehan and Jeff Rueter, the USL is finalizing plans for a lower-division women’s league. The pre-professional league is set to begin in 2022.

The league is projected to include eight clubs and mirror the men’s pre-professional league, League Two’s structure. Players will not be compensated, as the league will focus primarily on development.
