Emma Raducanu exited Wimbledon with a whimper Wednesday, falling in straight sets in the second round to Caroline Garcia on Centre Court.

The British 19-year-old could not match the French player. The No. 10 seed for the tournament, she won 6-4, 6-4 against Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium in the first round, but lost 6-3, 6-3 in 86 minutes in the second round.

Raducanu’s return to the All England Club after her breakout run at the 2021 tournament ended in disappointment.

Last year, she became the youngest British woman to reach Wimbledon’s Round of 16 in the Open Era in her Grand Slam debut. She retired in her fourth-round matchup due to difficulty breathing.

Raducanu has struggled with injuries this year, including blisters on her racket hand at the Australian Open and foot blisters at the Billie Jean King Cup.

In May, she withdrew from the Italian Open with back pain. At the start of June, she was forced to retire from the Nottingham Open with what she described as a “freak injury.”
