The England women’s national team sailed to an 8-0 win in Monday’s Euros group stage match against Norway after rocketing to a six-goal lead in the first half.

Georgia Stanway got the scoring started in the 12th minute, then Lauren Hemp added another in the 15th.

Both Ellen White and Beth Mead secured braces before the half to make it 6-0. Their four goals came in a span of 12 minutes. White’s two goals sandwiched Mead’s tallies, which came just four minutes apart in the 34th and 38th minutes.

Mead completed her hat trick in the 81st minute, tapping the ball into the net after Norwegian goalkeeper Guro Pettersen deflected a Keira Walsh shot.

England got 16 shots on target, while Norway failed to get one. The hosts of UEFA Women’s European Championship held possession for 61 percent of the match, and their pass accuracy sat at 89 percent.

The Lionesses became the first team to score eight goals in a Women’s Euros match, and also the first team in this year’s tournament to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.

This victory provided a much different look from the team that beat Austria just 1-0 last Wednesday in the opener. Mead also proved the difference-maker in that game, scoring the team’s one goal.

Austria later rebounded Monday with a 2-0 win over Northern Ireland.

The 2025 NWSL season for the No. 5 Orlando Pride has taken a sharp downturn, as the reigning league champions are now winless in their last seven games following Sunday's 5-2 loss to the No. 13 Chicago Stars at Northwestern University's Martin Stadium.

While left back Carson Pickett and defensive midfielder Haley McCutcheon each managed to take a goal back for the Pride, a leaky Orlando back line saw five different Stars players hit the back of the net — including a 10th goal on the season for Chicago star striker Ludmila.

"I apologize to the fans that were watching at home, and I apologize to the fans that were here with their support. That was not us today and we have to get it right," Pride head coach Seb Hines said following the match.

Orlando have continued to slide down the NWSL standings since their last win on June 13th, most recently logging three straight losses as the team struggles to find their form following MVP candidate Barbra Banda's season-ending injury on August 16th.

One of the Pride's rare bright spots on Sunday was record-breaking signee Lizbeth Ovalle, with the Mexican international subbing in at the half to make her NWSL debut.

Chicago, on the other hand, hasn't dropped a match since returning from the midseason summer break, with the surging Stars putting on a Sunday show in their impending lakefront home.

"I feel like it's just a really cool atmosphere, a lot more people can come now, and it's really good vibes," midfielder Julia Grosso said after the match.

No. 12 Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese rode the bench against the No. 2 Las Vegas Aces on Sunday night, serving a team-issued half-game suspension levied in the wake of the WNBA sophomore's controversial Chicago Tribune interview last week.

"The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player. We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball," the team said in a statement, sanctioning Reese for making what they dubbed "statements detrimental to the team."

Reese served her suspension during the first half of Sunday's 80-66 loss to Las Vegas, before remaining sidelined for the game's second half due a lingering back injury.

Sunday marked Chicago's second straight matchup without the star forward, as Reese previously missed the Sky's Friday clash with the No. 7 Indiana Fever due to technical foul accumulation.

In the aforementioned Tribune interview, Reese criticized the franchise's roster construction, point guard development, and ability to attract free agents in the article, causing a stir across the Chicago Sky organization and beyond.

Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh said on Friday that the decision to issue Reese a suspension came from the "top down," and that the team was "just going to handle it internally."

"She has a big influence, whether she says something good or bad, people like to interpret it a certain way," Sky center Elizabeth Williams told the Chicago Sun-Times last week. "I think she understands she just has to be mindful of the language she uses."

Thursday's season finale vs. the Libs will begin at 8 PM ET, airing live on NBA TV.

Just one ticket to the 2025 WNBA Playoffs remains, with the No. 7 Indiana Fever clinching their second straight postseason trip in a 94-65 win over the No. 10 Washington Mystics on Sunday.

Forward Natasha Howard led a balanced offensive effort for the Fever, with five players scoring in the double-digits to secure Indiana's first back-to-back playoff appearance since 2016.

"We never doubted ourselves," Indiana center Aliyah Boston said postgame. "We never doubted that we could be in the playoffs, even if things looked like it got harder."

With five Indiana players suffering season-ending injuries this year — including superstar Caitlin Clark — a season that was projected to finish in a deep playoff run seemed initially derailed as the team battled mounting adversity.

"With all the stuff that we've been through, most teams would have folded, and we just kept getting stronger," head coach Stephanie White said. "These women in the locker room deserve a lot of credit for their ability to stay resilient, to stay together, to stay hungry, and to stay the course."

As for the eighth and final spot in the 2025 WNBA Playoffs, both the No. 8 Seattle Storm and the No. 9 LA Sparks are still in the mix, with this week's WNBA slate set to determine a winner.

Seattle has the most control of their destiny, needing a win in their final game to book a postseason ticket, while the Sparks must walk away with victories in both of their final two games plus see the Storm falter in order to snag a playoff spot.

Both of the Sparks' final two games will air live on NBA TV.

The Naomi Osaka comeback tour at the 2025 US Open has ended, as the two-time New York Grand Slam champion and world No. 24 star ceded her Thursday semifinal to No. 9 Amanda Anisimova, who battled back to claim the 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 6-3 victory.

"Naomi is playing amazing tennis," the 23-year-old said of Osaka's US Open run. "She's back where she belongs. I told her I'm so proud of her after having a baby and playing at this level — it's insane."

With her Thursday win, Anisimova is now the only player to ever defeat Osaka in a Grand Slam quarterfinal, semifinal, or final — ending the Japanese fan-favorite's 13-0 run in the later rounds of tennis's major tournaments.

Anisimova's US Open success is even more impressive considering the result of her first-ever Grand Slam final — a brutal 6-0, 6-0 loss at Wimbledon in July.

In a massive turnaround, Anisimova handed No. 2 Iga Świątek, the 2025 Wimbledon champion, a redemptive straight-set loss in Wednesday's US Open quarterfinals en route to reaching this weekend's championship match.

Anisimova's victory means that a US player has now competed in every women's Grand Slam final dating back to the 2024 US Open, extending the country's championship-match streak to five straight Slams.

With even more history on the line, the US rising star now has a second shot at joining No. 6 Madison Keys and No. 3 Coco Gauff in hoisting a 2025 Grand Slam trophy for the US — a feat not accomplished by any single country since Serena Williams won the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon in 2015.
