The New York Liberty pulled away late to beat the Seattle Storm 92-86 on Wednesday at Barclays Center. It was New York's second straight win over Seattle as the victory pushed the Liberty to 19-13 on the season.
Breanna Stewart paced the winning side with 28 points and eight rebounds. Jonquel Jones joined her, nearly logging a triple-double with 14 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists. And Sabrina Ionescu heated up after the halftime break, closing with 15 points and six assists.
New York Liberty's Turnaround Continues with 6th Win
But the game really turned in the third quarter. With the score tied at 50, Ionescu sparked a 12-2 Liberty run that opened a double-digit lead. Seattle trimmed the deficit late but never caught up.
"We're starting to realize how to win together," Ionescu said.
The turnaround for New York has been swift. After a 2-8 slide, the Liberty have won six of their last seven games. Coach Chris DeMarco made some roster changes, moving Rebecca Allen into the starting five on July 20th. New York has lost just one game since.
The Liberty now sit at seventh in the WNBA standings. They next face the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday at 12:30 PM ET on ABC.
