No. 6 New York is back on track. The Liberty returned from the FIBA break to post big wins over No. 1 Minnesota and No. 13 Toronto after losing two of its previous four games.
New York upset the Lynx 93-81 on Friday behind Liberty forward Breanna Stewart’s 24 points and 10 rebounds. The World Cup MVP then dropped 27 more in Sunday’s 106-69 rout of the Tempo.
“I know what I do on the court, and everybody else knows what I do on the court,” Stewart said afterward.
No. 4 Atlanta will look to derail New York’s playoff seeding push tonight, after racking up back-to-back wins over No. 14 Connecticut and No. 12 Chicago.
Dream star Angel Reese became the first player to reach 500 rebounds in a single season in Saturday’s 106-81 victory over No. 12 Chicago, making her own year-end awards case against her former team.
“The question is whether she’ll be Defensive Player of the Year,” said Atlanta coach Karl Smesko. “She has a very strong case in a lot of the advanced metrics and deserves it.”
The New York Liberty takes on the Atlanta Dream tonight at 8 PM ET (Peacock).
