For the first time since 2005, UConn is out of the top 10 of The Associated Press women’s college basketball poll, ending a record 16-year run.
The Huskies fell four spots on Monday to No. 11, one day after losing to Louisville, who now sits at No. 3.
The last time UConn was No. 11 in the country came on March 7, 2005, marking 313 straight weeks that UConn was ranked among the top 10 teams in the poll. The next-longest such streak belongs to Tennessee, who was in the top 10 for 212 consecutive weeks.
The Huskies have still been ranked in the AP poll for 533 consecutive weeks, which sits just shy of Tennessee’s record of 565. They also haven’t lost consecutive games since 1993. Their next matchup is with Big East opponent Marquette on Dec. 29.
South Carolina remains No. 1 in the AP poll after receiving all first-place votes from a national media panel. That ranking sets up a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown with Stanford traveling to South Carolina to face the Gamecocks on Tuesday night. It is the second No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup this season.
Louisville, Arizona and NC State round out the top five in this week’s poll. The Wolfpack fell three places after an overtime loss to Georgia.
Maryland moves up three spots to sixth, while Tennessee and Indiana take seventh and eighth, respectively. Michigan enters the AP poll’s top 10 for the first time at No. 9 after an overtime win over then-No. 5 Baylor. The Bears, meanwhile, fell five spots to No. 10.
