WNBA teams sound off on Aces investigation: ‘We just want a level playing field’
The Aces are under scrutiny for salary cap violations.
As the UConn women’s basketball team continues to get players back from injury, the Huskies continue to roll, claiming an eighth straight win Sunday with a 65-50 decision over Georgetown.
But star sophomore Azzi Fudd, who only just returned from injury, appeared to reinjure her right knee. It was just her second game back after she had missed the previous eight following an injury to the same knee in December.
“She just tweaked something and they got some ice on it,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma told SNY after the game. “It didn’t sound serious at all.”
If Fudd is unable to go next game, that would leave UConn with just seven healthy players, which is the minimum required to play a game.
“If Azzi’s out any period of time, like if she doesn’t play Tuesday, then we’re right back to square one, right?” Auriemma said.
At any given point this season, UConn has yet to have a full, healthy roster. Both Paige Bueckers and Ice Brady are out for the season. Several others, including Nika Muhl and Dorka Juhász, also have missed time.
Aaliyah Edwards, who dealt with a leg injury of her own, had 17 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
”I feel like, I always say, we’re kind of used to (injuries),” she said. “I don’t know if that is a good thing to say or a bad thing to say, but we are kind of used to it and we’re always hopeful still and hopefully she’s going to be OK.”
