
New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury claim final two WNBA playoff spots

The Mercury veteran became the first person in WNBA history to reach 2,000 career assists and 9,000 career points, reaching the threshold with her second assist in Phoenix’s game on Saturday.

Taurasi was one of three Mercury players to hit a double-double during the team’s 84-69 win over the Dream, putting up 18 points and ten assists. Britney Griner notched 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Brianna Turner recorded 15 points and ten rebounds.

Skylar Diggins-Smith led Phoenix in points, with 25, shooting 66.7 percent from the field and 75 percent from deep. Diggins-Smith was dominant all over the court, adding seven assists, six rebounds, two steals and one block.

With Saturday’s win over the Dream, the Mercury extended their win streak to four.
Next up: Phoenix will face-off against the New York Liberty on Wednesday. Atlanta will play the Chicago Sky on Tuesday.
