Emma McKeon has made history in Tokyo, becoming the first female swimmer to earn seven medals in a single Olympics. The feat also ties her with Soviet gymnast Maria Gorokhovskaya’s 1952 record for the most medals earned by a woman at a single Olympics.

The Australian swimmer’s record-breaking seventh medal came in the 4x100m medley relay on Sunday, when she helped her team narrowly defeat the United States for the gold medal.

McKeon captured an individual gold medal on Sunday as well, setting an Olympic record in the 50m freestyle. Touching the wall in 23.81 seconds, McKeon beat out Sarah Sjöström of Sweden and Pernille Blume of Denmark for first place.

With her impressive medal haul, McKeon has now surpassed Ian Thorpe as the most decorated Australian Olympian of all time.
