July 22, 2021 — Just Women’s Sports, the fastest growing media platform for women’s sports, has named sports industry veteran Ben Osborne as Head of Content. Osborne, who will report to JWS Founder and CEO Haley Rosen, will oversee all digital, social, and editorial content for JWS as it continues its rapid expansion.

Osborne brings more than 25 years of experience to Just Women’s Sports, including writing for the likes of The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post as well as tenures as the Editor-in-Chief at Bleacher Report and SLAM. Most recently, he served as Senior Features Editor at FOX Sports Digital. In addition to traditional sports media coverage, Ben is well-versed in music, pop culture, and especially sneakers, having edited the 2014 book, SLAM KICKS: Basketball Sneakers that Changed the Game.

“We couldn’t be more excited to add Ben to the Just Women’s Sports team,” said Rosen. “He truly understands our vision as a company and has vital experience that will help bring us to the next level as we work to change the game for women’s sports coverage and deliver the best product possible to a highly engaged, and previously underserved audience.”

“I’ve been a fan of Just Women’s Sports from day one, and can’t wait to get started with this incredible team,” said Osborne. “I’m inspired by what Haley has created in such a short period of time and look forward to putting our foot on the gas as we expand our premium content offerings to cover all of the facets of women’s sports in the ways these fans and athletes deserve.”

Launched in 2020 by Rosen, Just Women’s Sports provides news and analysis of women’s sports through exclusive interviews, podcasts, videos, and other media content, and has quickly grown a passionate audience of fans, followers, and listeners. In addition to its Just Women’s Sports podcast hosted by USWNT star Kelley O’Hara, JWS recently launched Snacks, a podcast co-hosted by USWNT stars Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams, and is home to “Tea with A & Phee,” the popular podcast hosted by 2020 WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson and 2019 WNBA Rookie of the Year Napheesa Collier. Earlier this year, JWS also featured Off the Ball hosted by Olympian and NWSL star Ali Riley, and also created The Soccer Show, a first-of-its-kind digital weekly highlights-driven show covering the FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL) through an exclusive premium content partnership with Ata Football.

In May, Just Women’s Sports announced it had raised $3.5 million in seed funding, led by Will Ventures with participation from Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman’s Thirty Five Ventures, Drive by DraftKings, OVO Fund, Supernode Global as well as an all-star roster of women’s sports superstars including Elena Delle Donne, Hilary Knight, Sam Mewis, Kelley O’Hara and Arike Ogunbowale.

About Just Women’s Sports Inc.
Established in 2020, Just Women’s Sports Inc. is a digital-first consumer media brand 100% dedicated to covering women’s sports. Through daily content including podcasts, newsletters, online content and social media, Just Women’s Sports brings you everything you need to see and know in the world of women’s sports. Find Just Women’s Sports online, subscribe to our newsletter, and follow us on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube.

Just Women’s Sports has launched a comprehensive live scoreboard dedicated to major women’s sports leagues, as the multi-channel platform continues to build the critical infrastructure necessary to meet the ever-growing demand for women’s sports content. The scoreboard, which can be found at the top of the JWS home page, will be updated in real time, around the clock.

Previously, a prominent destination for real time scores has eluded the women’s sports space, leaving fans having to search through endless drop-down menus across multiple sites, if the information existed at all. Now, fans can head directly to www.jws1.wpengine.com for live scores from the NWSL, WNBA, LPGA, and WTA. Additionally, as the Tokyo Olympics get underway, the site will provide in-depth coverage and up-to-the-minute medal counts for female athletes and teams.

“This live scoreboard marks an important milestone in our mission to build the ecosystem for women’s sports, as a core element for any sports fan is the ability to easily follow the games,” said Haley Rosen, CEO and Founder, Just Women’s Sports. “For far too long, fans of women’s sports have had to search all over to get updates on live games and matches and more often than not, that information wasn’t even available anywhere. Not anymore.”

Launched in 2020 by Rosen, Just Women’s Sports provides news and analysis of women’s sports through exclusive interviews, podcasts, videos, and other media content, and has quickly grown a passionate audience of fans, followers, and listeners. Kelley O’Hara is doubling down on her partnership with Just Women’s Sports. The soccer superstar joined fellow elite athletes Elena Delle Donne, Hilary Knight, Sam Mewis, Arike Ogunbowale and Kevin Durant in Just Women’s Sports’ latest round of seed funding.

“I’m excited to double down on my partnership with Just Women’s Sports,” O’Hara says. “We’re long overdue for a platform to exist that covers the world class athletes competing out there and the amazing stories behind them.”

Alongside her investment, O’Hara is also returning to the recording booth for a new season of the Just Women’s Sports Podcast presented by Heineken®.

The O’Hara-hosted series goes deep with fellow superstar athletes, tracking professional successes, hardships and everything in-between.

The first episode drops Wednesday, May 19, with guest Sam Mewis. The USWNT teammates break down Mewis’ record-breaking career, the Tokyo Olympics and Sam’s own new podcast with Just Women’s Sports.

To O’Hara, sharing athletes’ stories is crucial to the growth of the women’s game.

“As a professional soccer player, I’ve experienced firsthand how important visibility is for women’s sports and in order to grow the game for everyone, we need investment like this”

The Just Women’s Sports Podcast presented by Heineken® launched at #1 in the sports category on Apple Podcasts last year and is available on all major podcast platforms, with new episodes launching each Wednesday.

“It’s crazy to think that it’s been less than a year since we dropped the first episode of the Just Women’s Sports podcast,” said Rosen. “As Just Women’s Sports continues to grow, this series of conversations between Kelley and some of the biggest athletes in the world continues to set a high bar for all of our new content offerings. I can’t wait for our fans to hear this latest batch of episodes. These are conversations you simply won’t find anywhere else.”

About Just Women’s Sports

Only 4% of sports media coverage is women’s sports. We’re here to change that. Established in 2020, Just Women’s Sports is a digital-first consumer media brand 100% dedicated to covering women’s sports. Through daily content including podcasts, newsletters, online content and social media, Just Women’s Sports brings you everything you need to see and know in the world of women’s sports. You can find Just Women’s Sports online and on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Facebook.

Just Women’s Sports has raised $3.5 million in seed fundraising. These are the investors who made it happen.

Will Ventures

Will Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm that leverages the power of sport to shape the future across health, media, and consumer.

Brian Reilly (co-founder and managing partner at Will Ventures): Prior to founding Will Ventures, Brian served as Vice President at Blue Star Innovation Partners, where he was responsible for deal sourcing, due diligence and execution of growth equity investments. In addition to his investment expertise, Brian has deep technology experience, gained as a Founding Member and the Director of Product and Research at the Sports Innovation Lab, the premier sports technology research and advisory firm, and as a product manager at MC10, where he was responsible for the development and commercialization of next-generation sports, fitness and healthcare wearables and software systems for big data storage and machine-learning. Brian earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and was a member of the college’s varsity football team. He is from East Windsor, New Jersey.

“It’s hard to believe that the founders of ESPN struggled to convince investors that a 24/7 sports network was a major opportunity,” said Reilly. “We expect to look back at the opportunity in women’s sports and feel the same way. There’s nearly a 50/50 gender split when it comes to sports participation, but only ~4% of coverage is dedicated to women’s sports. That gap represents a venture-scale opportunity, and we’re confident that Just Women’s Sports is uniquely positioned to seize it.”

35Ventures

Co-founded by two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant and his business partner Rich Kleiman, Thirty Five Ventures incorporates the duo’s business entities across sports, tech, media, philanthropy and more. Recent Thirty Five Ventures initiatives include The Boardroom, a multi-platform sports business/culture-focused vertical, the basketball-themed scripted series “SWAGGER” with Imagine Entertainment and Apple, an equity partnership with premium audio brand Master & Dynamic, and the Durant Center, a state-of-the-art educational and leadership facility in Durant’s hometown in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

“We’re excited about this investment in Just Women’s Sports not only because we recognize the huge opportunity for growth in the space, but because Haley is exactly the kind of founder we want to be in business with,” said Rich Kleiman. “She uniquely understands what’s missing in the conversations around women’s sports, and she’s also building her business with incredible knowledge and foresight.”

OVO Fund

OVO Fund is a seed stage venture capital firm that provides funding and support to startups at the earliest stages. They partner with exceptional teams with real technology looking to build transformative yet capital efficient businesses. OVO Fund leverages an extensive network of industry veterans to provide focused value-added capital to our entrepreneurs. Prior to this round, OVO Fund also invested in JWS pre-seed.

Supernode Global

Community + Capital for startups that are shaping the future of how we learn, work, play and communicate. Supernode Global is focused on the digital content ecosystem, supporting early-stage startups building or using technology in the creation, distribution, or monetisation of digital content.

Drive by DraftKings

Drive by DraftKings is a multi-stage venture capital firm that invests in SportsTech and Entertainment. Drive is unique among investment firms as a fully independent and highly strategic venture capital partner. Together with founders pushing the frontier of new markets and categories, their mission is to ‘drive’ the future of sports, gaming and media by supporting people with the ‘drive’ to unlock their full potential and chase big ideas.

“Despite women making up 40% of all participants in sports, they only receive 4% of sports media coverage, which leaves a massively undervalued and untapped industry ripe for growth, support and opportunity,” said Meredith McPherron, Drive by DraftKings CEO and Managing Partner. “Just Women’s Sports has taken an early leadership role in promoting equality in sports and bringing visibility to the exciting success and stories behind exceptional female athletes. We’re so pleased to have them join our portfolio.”

Jim Quagliaroli

Co-founder of Silversmith Capital Partners, Jim Quagliaroli, has served on the board of 20+ tech companies. Jim partners with passionate founders of growing SaaS companies focused on product leadership. His software investments are targeted on supporting competitive, team-oriented CEOs who want to invest in aggressive go-to-market initiatives to drive growth. He lives with his wife, son, and daughter in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he roots for  the Celtics, is a rabid EPL fan, and has learned that he is a better coach than player. A recipient of the John P. Reardon ’60 Award, given annually to Harvard’s top male scholar athlete, Jim has sports running through his blood. He has served on the Advisory Board of the Harvard Varsity Club (HVC) since 1997, and currently serves on the board of Friends of Harvard Soccer (FHS).

Arike Ogunbowale

Arike Ogunbowale is a professional basketball player for the Dallas Wings. At the University of Notre Dame, Arike hit back-to-back game winners to lead her team to the National Championship in 2018. With Dallas, Arike is the reigning WNBA scoring champion and an All-WNBA First Team selection. Internationally, Arike has competed with USA Basketball on multiple levels and has accumulated five USA Basketball medals (four gold and one silver). She has been nominated for ESPYs (2018, 2019) and took home one of those ESPY nominations for her buzzer beater to win the NCAA title.

“I’m a huge sports fan, and I know from being a fan of women’s sports how much we need a place that puts everything behind promoting and covering our sports,” Arike said. “Just Women’s Sports is the clear leader in women’s sports coverage, so I’m excited to be part of what they’re doing. There are great things ahead.”

Elena Delle Donne

Elena Delle Donne is a professional basketball player for the Washington Mystics, whom she led to their first-ever WNBA title in 2019. A two-time WNBA league MVP, Elena is the only player in WNBA history to join the exclusive 50-40-90 shooting club. Drafted by the Chicago Sky with the second overall pick in 2013, Elena spent her collegiate career at The University of Delaware, where she was a two-time All-American.

“I’m so excited for what Haley is building with JWS. I believe in her and her vision for this company and platform,” Elena said. “We know fans of women’s sports are an underserved audience, and there’s a huge opportunity for growth. The fact that this is the first female-led media company that is fully VC funded is amazing. I’m beyond thrilled to be part of what they’re doing.”

Said Amanda, Elena’s wife: “I am really excited for Elena and I to expand our portfolio with something we care so much about. There is a tremendous lack of coverage of women sports and women in general. We want to do everything we can to continue to give women the platform they deserve.  We feel JWS is the best company for us to partner with and do so. Really excited to be part of the JWS family!”

Hilary Knight

Hilary Knight is one of the most decorated players in the history of women’s ice hockey. As a member of Team USA, Knight has won an Olympic gold medal, two Olympic silvers, and eight gold medals at the IIHF World Championships. In 2019, she helped found the PWHPA, a group of professional players who are working to create a more sustainable future for women’s hockey.

“I’m so excited to join the Just Women’s Sports team to help expand a platform that will change the way women’s sports are covered,” Hilary said. “As we work to build sustainable professional leagues and bring the stories of incredible athletes to the forefront, we also need consistent in-depth coverage of our games so that fans can be fans all year round. JWS has laid a foundation, and with these investments and more, they’re going to change the game for women’s sports.”

Kelley O’Hara

Kelley O’Hara is a professional soccer player, two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, and Olympic gold medalist. She currently plays as a defender for the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States women’s national soccer team. She is also the host of the Just Women’s Sports podcast, where she sits down with the world’s biggest athletes to discuss the untold stories behind their success.

“I’m excited to double down on my partnership with Just Women’s Sports,” O’Hara said. “We’re long overdue for a platform to exist that covers the world class athletes competing out there and the amazing stories behind them. As a professional soccer player, I’ve experienced firsthand how important visibility is for women’s sports and in order to grow the game for everyone, we need investment like this.”

Sam Mewis

Sam Mewis is a professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Manchester City and the United States women’s national team. Voted the Best Women’s Player in a poll conducted by ESPN FC in 2021, Mewis has won three NWSL championships, an NCAA title, and the 2019 World Cup with the USWNT. Alongside Lynn Williams, she also co-hosts Snacks, a new podcast from Just Women’s Sports.

“It’s been amazing to be part of the Just Women’s Sports team as the co-host of our podcast, Snacks,” Mewis said. “The team’s vision of what women’s sports coverage can and should be is inspiring. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to play a role in both helping expand our show lineup and investing the resources necessary to grow the platform.”

Kleiner Perkins Scout Fund

For five decades, Kleiner Perkins has partnered with intrepid founders to build iconic companies that make history. Today, they continue that legacy, investing in founders with bold ideas that span industries and continents, partnering with them from inception to IPO and beyond to maximize the potential of their ideas.

Investors include Will Ventures, Thirty Five Ventures, Drive by DraftKings, and Women’s Sports Superstars Elena Delle Donne, Hilary Knight, Sam Mewis, Kelley O’Hara and Arike Ogunbowale

May 10, 2021 – Just Women’s Sports, the fastest growing media platform for women’s sports, today announced it has raised $3.5 million in seed funding, capitalizing on an explosion of interest and investment in women’s sports. The round was led by Will Ventures with participation from Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman’s Thirty Five Ventures, Drive by DraftKings, OVO Fund, Supernode Global as well as an all-star roster of women’s sports superstars including Elena Delle Donne, Hilary Knight, Sam Mewis, Kelley O’Hara and Arike Ogunbowale. Launched in 2020 by CEO and Founder Haley Rosen, Just Women’s Sports provides news and analysis of women’s sports through exclusive interviews, podcasts, videos and other media content, and has quickly grown a passionate audience of fans, followers and listeners.

“The audience for women’s sports is both massive and growing, despite a lack of investment in consistent, high-quality coverage,” said Rosen. “For women’s sports to take the next step, the games have to be more accessible and there also needs to be more content around the games, including news, highlights, analysis, and storytelling. Even when they can find a game to watch, fans of women’s sports are too often left wondering who they’re watching and what’s at stake. Just Women’s Sports is here to change that.”

In addition to a significant investment, Thirty Five Ventures will utilize its network and resources to help grow Just Women’s Sports, including amplification across its Boardroom media network.  Rosen will also be a featured guest on Boardroom’s “Out of Office” podcast with Rich Kleiman and Kevin Durant.

“In order to grow women’s sports, fans need to see how great the games are, and they shouldn’t have to look hard to do that,” said Thirty Five Ventures co-founder and two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant. “Just Women’s Sports is creating a much-needed platform centered around game and player highlights and analysis that shows fans exactly how good these players are and why they’re worth watching.”

“We’re excited about this investment in Just Women’s Sports not only because we recognize the huge opportunity for growth in the space, but because Haley is exactly the kind of founder we want to be in business with,” added Rich Kleiman. “She uniquely understands what’s missing in the conversations around women’s sports, and she’s also building her business with incredible knowledge and foresight.”

In addition to its Just Women’s Sports podcast hosted by USWNT star Kelley O’Hara, Just Women’s Sports recently launched Snacks, a podcast co-hosted by USWNT stars Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams, Off the Ball featuring Olympian and NWSL star Ali Riley, and The Soccer Show, a first-of-its-kind digital weekly highlights-driven show covering the FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL) through an exclusive premium content partnership with Ata Football. In addition, beginning May 27, Just Women’s Sports will feature Tea with A & Phee, the popular podcast hosted by 2020 WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson and 2019 WNBA Rookie of the Year Napheesa Collier.

“It’s hard to believe that the founders of ESPN struggled to convince investors that a 24/7 sports network was a major opportunity. We expect to look back at the opportunity in women’s sports and feel the same way,” said Brian Reilly, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Will Ventures. “There’s nearly a 50/50 gender split when it comes to sports participation, but only ~4% of coverage is dedicated to women’s sports. That gap represents a venture-scale opportunity, and we’re confident that Just Women’s Sports is uniquely positioned to seize it.”

“I’m so excited for what Haley is building with Just Women’s Sports. I believe in her and her vision for this company and platform,” said WNBA champion and two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. “We know fans of women’s sports are an underserved audience, and there’s a huge opportunity for growth. The fact that this is the first female-led media company that is fully VC funded is amazing. I’m beyond thrilled to be part of what they’re doing.”

“Despite growing conversations and interest in women’s sports, media coverage is still lagging way behind, which leaves a massively undervalued and untapped industry ripe for growth, support and opportunity,” said Meredith McPherron, Drive by DraftKings CEO and Managing Partner. “Just Women’s Sports has taken an early leadership role in promoting equality in sports and bringing visibility to the exciting success and stories behind exceptional female athletes. We’re so pleased to have them join our portfolio.”

This funding will enable Just Women’s Sports to expand its production of high-quality content featuring the biggest stars in women’s sports, as well as continue building out its executive team, production and editorial staff. Recent hires have included former Google and Uber Eats exec Ali Braverman as Head of Revenue, former ESPN producer Ashley Braband as Head of Content and Production, and former The Athletic editor Hannah Withiam as Managing Editor.

April 21, 2021 – Two of the WNBA’s brightest young stars are bringing their widely acclaimed podcast to the fastest growing media platform for women’s sports. A’ja Wilson, the 2020 WNBA MVP, and Napheesa Collier, the 2019 Rookie of the Year, announced today that they will partner with Just Women’s Sports to produce and distribute Season Two of “Tea with A & Phee,” their popular podcast that in 2020 featured interviews with singer/songwriter Saweetie, basketball stars Elena Delle Donne, Candace Parker, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, as well as other big names in basketball and beyond.

“Tea with A & Phee,” which originated in partnership with Through The Lens, gives fans a behind the scenes look at life in and around the WNBA through two of the league’s top young stars, while also giving A’ja and Napheesa an opportunity to showcase their personalities and discuss timely and topical issues beyond basketball. The season two premiere will launch in late May across all podcast platforms.

Just Women’s Sports provides news and analysis of women’s sports through exclusive interviews, podcasts, videos and other content. In addition to its flagship Just Women’s Sports podcast, Just Women’s Sports recently launched The Soccer Show, a first-of-its-kind weekly highlights-driven show covering the FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL) through an exclusive premium content partnership with Ata Football. Just Women’s Sports has quickly grown a passionate audience of more than one million fans, followers and listeners.

“A’ja and Napheesa are two of the biggest stars in the game today. Behind the microphone, they have incredible on-air chemistry, and the show they’ve created is equally entertaining as it is insightful.,” said Haley Rosen, Founder and CEO of Just Women’s Sports. “‘Tea with A & Phee’ is exactly the kind of content we want Just Women’s Sports to be known for, so I couldn’t be more excited to partner with A’ja and Napheesa in producing this one-of-a-kind show.”

“The first season of “Tea with A & Phee” was so great,” said Collier. “We were learning an entire new skillset as podcast hosts, which was a fun challenge. Working with Just Women’s Sports will help take our show to new levels and will make Season 2 even better.”

“What I love the most about Tea with A & Phee is that Napheesa and I can be unapologetically us and give everyone an inside look into our lives on and off the court,” said Wilson. “We give a different perspective on the WNBA and love having guests who are just as passionate as we are about the growth of the W and the powerful women behind this league. We are excited to work with Just Women’s Sports because they understand the vision and the unlimited opportunity.”
