Jones, making her third All-Star Game appearance, and Team WNBA will take on Team USA just ahead of the national team’s trip to the Tokyo Olympics.
When asked about the All-Star matchup after the Sun’s win over the Liberty on Sunday, Jones made it clear she and her teammates are going for a win.
“I know the people that are playing on the All-Star team, we want to beat Team USA,” she said.
The Connecticut forward sees the All-Star contest as her chance to win an Olympic gold medal, “technically.”
“I was joking with my teammates, I’m like, ‘Listen, the chances of me winning a gold medal being from the Bahamas and then now playing for the Bosnian national team are like slim to none,'” Jones said. “So, I’m going to be like 85, talking to my grandkids, and I’ll be like, ‘Yeah, back in 2021, we beat the gold-medal team, so technically I won a gold medal.’”
The U.S. national team will be going for its seventh straight gold medal in Tokyo. But first, they’ll have to get through the WNBA All-Stars in the exhibition game.
The 17th WNBA All-Star Game will air Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
