The USWNT legend reflects on her one-of-a-kind career.
Two-time WNBA MVP and six-time All-Star Elena Delle Donne joins Kelley to discuss her one-of-a-kind path to basketball stardom.
Elena was a hoops prodigy from an early age, first being recruited by colleges in 7th grade. The #1 recruit in the country her senior year, Delle Donne headed to powerhouse UConn, but quickly returned home to be closer to her family. She talks with Kelley the unique bond with her sister Lizzie that sparked her decision and which continues to help shape her career.
After discovering she had Lyme disease in college, Delle Donne’s path took another turn. Playing volleyball for a year before returning to basketball, Delle Donne was drafted No. 2 overall to Chicago in 2013 before going to be named WNBA Rookie of the Year.
Battling injuries and Lyme Disease, Delle Donne still managed to win league MVP in 2015 and 2019, the scoring title in 2015, and entry into the exclusive 50-40-90 club in 2019. That same year, she led the Washington Mystics to their first-ever WNBA title, all while playing with three herniated discs in back.
Elena’s career may be filled with accolades, but her journey to the top has been anything but smooth. Throughout it, she’s carved a path that’s uniquely her own.
