“It’s hard to believe I’m writing a goodbye after six years of memories that still sit fresh in my mind,” Morgan wrote. “The last six years have brought me so much happiness and I am forever grateful to Orlando Pride for their trust, belief, and support throughout the years.”
Morgan, who initially joined the Pride in 2015 in a trade with the Portland Thorns as one of the club’s first key players, is said to be part of a deal with San Diego Wave FC. While the Wave have already announced the signing of Morgan, the Pride have declined to comment until the trade window reopens following the expansion draft.
“I want to thank our fans, who accepted and uplifted us everyday, who stuck with me through highs and lows,” she continued. “Thank you to my teammates, every single one of you made an impact on me. The work ethic, passion, and grit you all showed made me give my best every day.
“To the organization, coaching staff(s), support staff, comms team, front office staff, game day ops, and volunteers, thank you for doing anything and everything for this club and your players. I always felt supported and prepared because of you. The dedication every person showed to represent this club in the most professional way was felt by us players.
“Although my time with the Pride has ended, I will forever cherish my years in purple.”
The striker played in 66 total games for Orlando, notching 23 goals – including five through 13 appearances in 2021. She’ll now return home to Southern California and reunite with former U.S. women’s national team head coach and Wave president Jill Ellis.
The departure of Morgan follows the Pride trading defender Ali Krieger and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris to NJ/NY Gotham FC.
