Aliyah Boston further cemented her place in South Carolina history Thursday, recording her 72nd career double-double.
With the feat, she tied a program record that has stood for 40 years — and helped the No. 1 Gamecocks move to a perfect 19-0 on the season with a 96-48 win against Vanderbilt.
While Boston played just 22 minutes in the blowout victory, she showed her usual efficiency. She went 8-for-8 from the floor, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The senior forward also found her way around triple-team defensive coverage. At one point in the second quarter, three Commodores players crashed down on her in the lane, but she refused to get rattled. Instead, she simply leaned to the right and sent a hook shot off the backboard and into the net.
“Aliyah’s just gonna take what the defense gives her,” South Carolina coach Dawn Staley said. “At times, I thought today, she just went and got buckets.”

Sheila Foster set the program record for career double-doubles in her time at South Carolina, which spanned from 1979-82. Boston will break that record with one more double-double this season; she has 12 in 19 games so far.
After leading the Gamecocks to the national title and sweeping the Player of the Year awards last season, the presumptive No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft is in the midst of what counts for her as a down season.
Still, after Thursday’s win, she has at least a piece of every double-double record in Gamecocks history.
“I think when you can consistently play at a high level and create a high standard for yourself, that’s the better part,” Staley said. “That is who she is. Her consistency, her ability to always think of any situation that she’s in as a challenge. And she gets up for it.”
