The award comes after the team showed support for and publicly endorsed then-candidate Rev. Raphael Warnock in his US Senate race over the Dream’s then-owner Sen. Kelly Loeffler.
At the time, Loeffler had expressed her disagreement over the WNBA’s support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The team was sold earlier this year.
“Rather than stay silent, the players bravely spoke truth to power, and along with their WNBA peers, shined a light on the important issues of racial justice and voter suppression,” ESPN said in a statement announcing the award.
