Atlanta's long-awaited NWSL expansion team finally has a name. Arthur Blank's AMB Sports and Entertainment revealed Atlanta City FC on Monday, complete with a phoenix-inspired crest and a peach-and-white color palette rooted in Georgia's identity.
Arthur Blank's NWSL Expansion Plans Finally Revealed
The brand launch caps a months-long buildup since Blank paid a reported $165 million expansion fee in November 2025. Still, the club won't take the pitch until 2028, when it joins the NWSL as the league's 17th franchise. Mercedes-Benz Stadium will serve as home, while a dedicated training facility is already under construction in Marietta.
To avoid confusion with Angel City FC in Los Angeles, the club will go by ATL CTY, leaning into a nickname the city already owns. The team's crest also draws on the city with its phoenix motto and the letter "A" shaped by the bird's outstretched wings. Surrounding it, a dogwood blossom honors the Georgia state flower.
Fans won't have to wait until 2028 to rep the brand, either. An inaugural merchandise line featuring fleece and cropped tops launches at the club's brand party on Oct. 4th.
Atlanta City FC Ready to Bring the NWSL to Georgia
On the business side, former Las Vegas Aces CMO Deandra Duggans has signed on as chief business officer. A general manager and head coach have yet to be named, but that isn't slowing down the club's plans.
"We know how much pride people have in Atlanta," Duggans said. While she admitted "we don't have a match for people to go to yet," the organization is already focused on getting the community to "rally around the team before we even have a first kick."
