USWNT captain Lindsey Heaps opened the scoring in the 42nd minute off winger Natalie Means. Then, Janine Sonis doubled the scoreline in the 57th with her 11th goal of the season, inching her up to fifth in the NWSL's Golden Boot race.
But Bay FC answered in the final 20 minutes. Claire Hutton cut the deficit in the 73rd, while Taylor Huff equalized deep in stoppage time to complete the comeback.
"If you don't put an opponent away, it gives them something to fight for," Denver head coach Nick Cushing said afterward.
Sonis echoed that statement saying, "In a playoff race as close as this one, we really need to be picking up points in these games, especially when we’re dominating opponents."
