Becky Hammon has moved into her role with the Las Vegas Aces full-time. San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich confirmed Wednesday that Hammon has officially moved on from her assistant coach position with his team.
Hammon was hired as the head coach of the Aces in early January, replacing Bill Laimbeer. Reports at the time said she would finish out the NBA regular season with the Spurs while also starting her role in Las Vegas.
The Spurs’ regular season ended Sunday, and their postseason ended Wednesday with a loss to the Pelicans in the play-in tournament.
Hammon is the first coach in the WNBA to exceed $1 million in salary, according to reports. Her reported salary with the Spurs had been around $750,000.
Last week, the Aces announced the hiring of Natalie Williams as the next general manager ahead of the WNBA draft. The Aces made some surprising moves in the draft, trading away 2023 picks and selecting Mya Hollingshed at No. 8 overall.
