USWNT captain Becky Sauerbrunn is approaching a new record in her storied career. The 36-year-old center-back is poised to become the most capped national team player without a goal.
In a new video released by U.S. Soccer, Sauerbrunn sets the record straight about her absence on the scoreboard.

Currently, Hope Solo holds the record for most games played without scoring a goal at 202. Sauerbrunn is closing in on the former USWNT goalkeeper at 188 games without a goal.
In her 2020 appearance on the JWS podcast, Sauerbrunn addressed the public push to get her on the scoresheet. “It better not be a PK, if I score a goal it’s going to be one that I deserve to score.”
If the USWNT makes it to the final at the Tokyo Olympics and Sauerbrunn stays scoreless, she will be at 194 games without a goal, eight caps shy of the record.
