Sarah Fillier continues to look like a seasoned veteran in her first Olympics, scoring twice and helping Team Canada to an 11-1 victory over Finland on Saturday.
Sarah Nurse and Brianne Jenner each recorded a hat trick to add to the total.
“It speaks to the depth on our team,” Fillier said. “We have a ton of skill and a ton of talent and we’re willing to score any way we can…. It’s really from everywhere on the ice and everyone on our team and it just speaks to our chemistry.”
Canada improves to 2-0 as Finland falls to 0-2 after a loss to the United States on Thursday.
Similar to Thursday’s win, Fillier got the scoring started just 61 seconds into the game. Against Switzerland two days ago, it took her 64 seconds to find the back of the net. On Saturday, a feed into the slot from linemate Natalie Spooner helped Fillier tally.
Spooner already has nine total points through just two games after recording four assists on Saturday.
Finnish defender Minnamari Tuominen notched the only goal for FInland near the end of the first period. It never got that close again as the Canadians exploded offensively.
“A bunch of us looked up at one point and we saw that we had 10 goals. We didn’t even realize we had that many because we’re so focused on that next shift and being impactful and generating offence,” Nurse said.
Finnish goaltender Meeri Raisanen made 28 saves through two periods before being replaced by backup goaltender Anni Keisala, who added nine saves in the final frame.
Forward Jamie Lee Rattray added the first goal of her Olympic career, while Laura Stacey had her second consecutive two-goal game.
