The Big Ten women’s basketball tournament is sold out for the first time ever.
The conference announced the sellout on Friday, with more than 109,000 fans expected to attend the five-day tournament from March 6 through the 10th. This year’s tournament is taking place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, home to the Minnesota Lynx.
It’s the second-straight year the Twin Cities has held the event after a record-setting tournament last year.
The total expected attendance would more than double last year’s record-setting attendance, which was 47,923. It’s largely expected that the proximity to Iowa, home to college basketball star Caitlin Clark, helped with the sellout. It also has made Minneapolis an ideal home for the tournament, as the Big Ten looks to capitalize on Clark’s presence.
