Following Wednesday’s 79-69 win over the Connecticut Sun, Chicago Sky forward Candace Parker spoke with ESPN’s Holly Rowe.

The former Tennessee star who played under legendary coach Pat Summitt was vocal following the game about remembering Summitt and the impact she made.

“I want to always bring honor to Pat,” she said, tearing up. “In these moments, I always remember her.”

Parker even put “For Pat” on the inside of her shoes.

The WNBA champion has been vocal in the past, speaking with Kelley O’Hara on the Just Women’s Sports podcast about the impact Summitt had on her career.

“Coach Summit, if you talk about empowering players, she did that,” she said back in February.

But, according to Parker, Summitt cared more about her players than just what happened on the court.

“Her door was always open,” Parker said. “Just to know she was there. It’s that stuff I remember more so than on the court…Just to have that relationship with all of your players and reach them in different ways. To know what pushes their buttons and what they need, it takes a special person to be able to do that.”
