Christen Press sat down with Angel City Sporting Director Eni Aluko to talk about the importance of building a culture of home in a video published to the club’s Twitter account Friday.

The USWNT forward tells Aluko that “it’s just a dream come true” to return to Los Angeles, where she grew up and first started playing soccer. Home, however, means more to Press than just a physical place.
“A big part of feeling at home is feeling like you’re free to be yourself,” said Press. “Part of that is feeling you are where you want to be and the freedom and autonomy that comes with that.”
The expansion club will join the NWSL in 2022 for their inaugural season, with Angel City already building out their roster, signing fellow USWNT star Julie Ertz and defender Sarah Gorden alongside Press.
Attracting players to Angel City is something Press says will come with creating a culture that people can take pride in: “Building clubs that people really want to play for… building the business that people are proud of, building a connection with your community that people are like ‘wow that makes me so proud.’”
Angel City FC will have the first pick in the NWSL Expansion Draft, which is set to take place on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. ET on Paramount+.
