The Cleveland Sirens officially have a name, and a 2028 debut on the horizon. The league's newest expansion franchise unveiled its identity on Tuesday, giving Cleveland WNBA fans their first professional women's basketball team in over two decades.
How Lake Erie Inspired the Cleveland Sirens WNBA Name and Logo
The name draws from Lake Erie's mythology. According to the organization, "Sirens" represents "an unmistakable call for fans to be part of something greater than themselves." The brand also nods to the city's lakefront, tying the WNBA team directly to the region's geography and culture.
Cleveland previously hosted the Rockers from 1997 to 2003. Now, 25 years later, the Sirens will carry on that legacy. Former Cleveland star and Hall of Famer Janice Braxton narrated the Sirens' intro video and even the team's colorway pays tribute to its predecessor.

Behind the scenes, Rock Entertainment Group, led by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, will own and operate the franchise. The Sirens will play at Rocket Arena in downtown Cleveland and train at a dedicated facility in Independence, OH.
Beyond Cleveland, the WNBA's expansion push continues. The Sirens enter as the league's 16th team, with Detroit following in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030.
