Duke advances in NCAA soccer tournament on last-second goal


No. 1 seed Duke narrowly escaped early elimination from the NCAA tournament Friday night, scoring in the last minute to defeat No. 17 Old Dominion 1-0.

Caitlin Cosme provided the go-ahead goal for the Blue Devils, striking a free kick past the Old Dominion keeper to give Duke the lead with 17 seconds left on the clock.

Friday’s loss caps off a historic year for Old Dominion, with the team winning the school’s first-ever Conference USA title.

Duke’s season continues, advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament, where they will face the winner of the matchup between Memphis and LSU.
