Elina Svitolina rolled past Ann Li in straight sets at the 2026 China Open, winning 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday in Beijing. The sixth-seeded Ukrainian needed just 91 minutes to dispatch the No. 21 US seed in their WTA 1000 round of 16 matchup.
Svitolina grabbed an early break and controlled play from there, keeping Li off balance for most of the day. The second set followed a similar pattern, with the Ukranian converting her chances efficiently while Li struggled to find consistent rhythm.
Svitolina Reaches Record 29th WTA 1000 Quarterfinal
The win adds yet another milestone to Svitolina's WTA 1000 record. Wednesday marked her 29th career quarterfinal berth at this level while also boosting her push for a WTA Finals spot later this season.
Still, Li can exit Beijing with confidence. She won seven of her previous 10 matches heading into the 2026 China Open, including victories over Belinda Bencic and Ashlyn Krueger in earlier rounds.
Up next, Svitolina faces home crowd favorite Qinwen Zheng in Friday's quarterfinal. The pair have never faced each other on tour before, but both are in strong form.
Zheng has eeked out multiple three-set wins against top opponents in Bejing and at the earlier US Open. Svitolina, meanwhile, has battled back from an ankle injury to reach her fifth quarterfinal of the year.
