COVID-19 has penetrated Tokyo’s athlete village.
Olympic organizers confirmed Saturday that a person staying at the Olympic village had tested positive for COVID-19. The person in question is said to be a non-athlete organizer and is quarantining in a hotel for 14 days.
The news comes a week prior to the start of the Games when 11,000 athletes will descend upon the village for the two-week competition.
Tokyo is currently fighting a spike in COVID-19 cases, leading Japan to declare a state of emergency on July 8, which will run through the Summer Games.
No spectators will be permitted at the Olympic competitions in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.
