The move gives Carli Lloyd, who announced her retirement in August, one more competitive game in the Philadelphia area. Lloyd grew up in Delran, N.J., which is fewer than 15 miles from Philadelphia.
“I am beyond thankful to Gotham FC and the Philadelphia Union for making this happen,” Lloyd said in a press release. “I have played many games at Subaru Park with the National Team and to have the opportunity to play in front of my home crowd on the club level will be an amazing memory. Let’s be loud and fill the stadium!”
It will be the first women’s pro soccer game in the city since 2011, when the Philadelphia Independence were a part of the former Women’s Professional Soccer league.
