Just one day after leaked trademark filings gave fans a sneak peek at four new Houston Comets logos, the 2027 WNBA expansion team hosted a brand reveal party that teased even bigger plans for next season's debut.
Comets Tease 2027 Gameplan at Branding Party
General manager Morgan Tuck all but confirmed during the event that the Houston WNBA team will open play at Toyota Center the first weekend of May. Tuck, a four-time NCAA champion with UConn, inherits plenty to work with, too. Houston enters the offseason with more than $5.5 million in cap space — the most in the league — plus a top 2027 lottery pick.
But for the GM, the goal is straightforward: “We want to have championships.”
The logos blend those future aspirations with nods to the team's past.
Each design centers on a slanted "H" with a basketball doubling as the crossbar and a comet streak sweeping off the top, studded with stars. Two wordmarks and a circular badge round out the set.
One wrinkle still lingers behind the scenes, though. A trademark dispute with rapper Travis Scott's TSTM Holdings over the Comets name remains unresolved.
But the throwback franchise is moving forward regardless, with a roster to build and a city ready to welcome the WNBA back home.
