Springsteen, along with U.S. teammates Laura Kraut and McLain Ward, recorded a score of eight faults, tying Sweden for first place.
The two teams then competed in a jump-off for gold. Sweden won out after completing the course 1.3 seconds faster than the U.S. did.
“You definitely start to get the jitters, but it was also super exciting,” Springsteen said after her Olympic debut. “My horse jumped it beautifully and we really gave it our all out there.”
With the silver medal, Kraut became the oldest U.S. female medalist since 1904.
