The NWSL announced Tuesday that professional soccer is on its way to San Diego.
The expansion team, owned by billionaire businessman Ron Burkle, will begin play in 2022 at Torero Stadium. There are plans for a new, more permanent home by 2023 that will include top-notch training facilities.
With Angel City FC set to begin play at the same time, the two will likely become instant regional rivals.
Jill Ellis is also set to be the club’s president. She told the Union Tribune that the vision for the club is to “create an all-female executive and coaching staff – believed to be a first in pro sports history.”
