Jordan Harrison announced her retirement from the WNBA on Tuesday, bidding farewell to the league after wrapping her rookie season with the Portland Fire. The former West Virginia guard shared her decision on Instagram, ending her first season with the WNBA expansion side after just 16 games.
Harrison, 22, said faith guided her choice to leave the sport.
"I truly feel like God is calling me into a new season and has something bigger in store for my life," she wrote.
Inside Jordan Harrison's Rookie Season with the Portland Fire
During her brief stint in Portland, Harrison showed what she could do in the WNBA. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 5.1 points and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 42.2% from the field.
But her journey in the league, and with the Fire, got off to a rocky start. After going undrafted in 2026, Harrison signed with the expansion franchise during training camp, only to be waived following the season opener against Chicago. She worked her way back on Portland's roster through a developmental contract. Then, a 13-point, six-assist outing against Seattle in August locked down a full season deal.
Before turning pro, Harrison earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Big 12 honors at WVU. Though she has yet to reveal what's next, she gave her former teams a shoutout in her goodbye post.
"Coming into this, I really had no expectations," Harrison wrote. "I just wanted to give myself a chance and prove myself right. I’m so glad I did because I met so many amazing people and made connections that will last a lifetime."
