A year ago, the KC Diamonds didn't even exist as a professional softball team. Now they're rolling through their first season in the Professional Softball League with a 20-6 record, trailing only the Atlanta Smoke.
That quick rise started in June 2025, when organizer Jeremy McDowell assembled a roster of top college talent for a proof-of-concept summer series. By December, the concept had legs.
KC Diamonds Bring Professional Softball to Kansas City
The KC Diamonds joined six other clubs to launch the Professional Softball League, with McDowell stepping in as general manager.
Now the roster backs up McDowell's initial ambition.
Outfielder Cori McMillan, who led the nation with 31 home runs at Virginia Tech last spring, is batting .400 this summer. Meanwhile, pitcher Hope Valdespino brings a record that includes the only perfect game in NCAA DI history and a national championship at Oklahoma.
The KC Diamonds play a 39-game schedule at Legends Field in Kansas City, with five everyday players hitting above .370. However, the regular season isn't over yet.
A six-team postseason tournament kicks off August 5th in Birmingham, Alabama. All games stream live on the All Women's Sports Network.
