Lynn Williams is proud of the fight the North Carolina Courage showed during the 2021 NWSL season.
The Courage forward described the whirlwind of emotions she experienced this season in an Instagram post on Thursday. The Courage were bounced from the playoffs last Sunday in a 1-0 loss to the Washington Spirit in extra time of the quarterfinals.

“A lot of emotions, a lot of frustration, a lot of tears, and a lot of anger,” Williams wrote. “But it also had a lot of laughs, a lot of love and a lot of growth.”
The Courage had a tumultuous season on and off the field. In September, former coach Paul Riley was at the center of a report in The Athletic that detailed players’ accusations of abusive behavior. He was subsequently fired by the team and Sean Nahas took over in the interim as the NWSL continues to deal with the fallout of the scandal.
“I am proud of this team for sticking together and continuing to fight, even when things weren’t going our way,” Williams continued.
“To our supporters. We love you.”
