Mallory Swanson’s recovery continues, with the USWNT and Chicago Red Stars star training with the national team ahead of the Concacaf W Gold Cup.
It was her first time back with the national team since tearing her patella tendon in a friendly last April. Since then, Swanson has opened up about the injury and how she had to have a second surgery to remove an infection.
But she’s back training again, first with Chicago and now the USWNT. Through it all, Swanson has said that she’s “feeling good.” She just spent a few days with the national team, which interim head coach Twila Kilgore said went well.

“She came in, had some great days with us, and looked phenomenal in training,” Kilgore said. “She’s still getting her fitness, and she’ll go back to club and continue to progress on a rhythm that will allow her to be ready for future matches.”
The return of Swanson could further boost the USWNT, particularly with Mia Fishel going down with an ACL tear. And her teammates are happy to have her back, even making a TikTok to celebrate the occasion.
“I don’t know if you saw the TikTok, but everyone was super happy about that [Swanson’s return],” Trinity Rodman said. “It’s amazing to have her back in camp. She’s got a great personality, on and off the field.
“When she [Swanson] comes into training, she brings in intensity, and she hasn’t missed a beat, which is amazing. Our connection has gotten better. And even just the few days we’ve been here, our communication and bouncing ideas off of each other has been really good. We really missed her, so it’s nice to have her back.”
And it’s not just what she brings to the team on the field, but also off of it — including a boost to team morale.
“I love her so much on the field because she’s amazing and so special on the field,” former Washington Spirit and USWNT teammate Rose Lavelle said. “But, I’m so obsessed with her off the field. It is so great to have her back in camp. It’s so fun… She’s funny and fun. Good vibes.”
