Hockey Canada announced Tuesday the 23-person Canadian Olympic women’s hockey roster for the upcoming 2022 Beijing Olympics.
The Canadians will be looking to recapture gold in Beijing after dropping a 3-2 shootout decision to the United States in 2018. More recently in the storied rivalry, Canada took gold at the World Championships for the first time in more than a decade thanks to a golden goal in overtime in Calgary from captain Marie-Philip Poulin.
Poulin will captain the roster once again in Beijing. It will be her and fellow forward Rebecca Johnston’s fourth Olympics after winning gold in 2010 and 2014 and silver in 2018.
For the first time since 2006, goalie Shannon Szabados will not be on the Canadian Olympic team. Another notable cut from the 2021 national team pool is defender and three-time Olympian Meaghan Mikkelson.
The Canadian team will not play in any more games prior to the Olympics in order to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
